Social Textile – COVID 19

Project Type
Customised Programme

Programme Brief

Social Textiles is a COVID-19 relief effort and a collective of social impact organisations with a cooperative aim of protecting our frontliners, clinics, hospitals, and other heroes in the frontline by distributing PPE Scrub sets. This community-centric platform practices an open-source concept that encourages sharing of designs, information, and resources.

Programme Background

Through a digital and decentralised model of production, our human-centric platform connected open-source PPE designs and idle machines with logistics partners and makers who in turn successfully strengthened the operational capabilities of Malaysia’s hospitals and frontliners.

This platform enabled us to dramatically increase domestic production of PPE and be self-sufficient during a time of grave emergency. In that short period of time we were able to partner with 67 hubs/production partners and share 17 open-source PPE designs to produce 24,670 face shields, 1505 aerochambers, 58 isolation boxes and 9975 PPE gowns, ultimately supporting 47 hospitals and 16 clinics.
