Food Waste Campaigns

Defining The Service

Reasons to adopt a Food Waste Campaign

Malaysians waste 15,000 tonnes of food daily including 3,000 tonnes that is still fit for consumption. Think about the food waste generated at each household, restaurant, market, supermarket, hotel and convention center. Food waste happens during production of food, from-farm-to-store, at stores, during food preparation and as leftovers. Food contains nutrition which were absorbed from land by vegetables and fruits, and transferred to poultry. When not consumed and thrown into the garbage bin, food ends up in landfill. Food in landfill will undergo anerobic digestion which causes the land to become toxic as it will be buried under tonnes of trash that are discarded there, each day. By throwing food waste in the landfill, we are throwing valuable nutrition - which are being robbed slowly from our lands. Lands lacking nutrients will be infertile with time. Hence, it is important to compost food waste and return it to the soil.

The Challenges

Although food waste make up most of the waste that goes to landfill, it is not typically seen as a problem as many are not aware that the food waste sent to landfill is not able to decompose naturally. This challenge can be tackled by spreading awareness through informational talks, Another challenge is managing the food waste itself. While it would be ideal to tackle the problem from the source, i.e reduce the food consumption based on the waste audit by pin pointing unecessary purchases which can also help in cutting costs, it must be realized that completely zero food waste might not be easilty achieved and thus alternatives to landfill are necessary. Simple and effective solutions include composting most of the food waste or using certain dry food waste to create agro charcoal.

What We Can Provide

Waste Management Solutions

As we have been actively researching and finding alternatives to the proper disposal of food waste, we can recommend various solutions along with the right people that provide these solutions. You can rest easy and be assured that there will be a proper method of dealing with the food waste during the campaign. Additionally, solutions such as composting does not only help to mitigate the waste but also brings about materials such as nutrent rich compost (which can often be expensive) that can be used within the community that manage the food waste or sold to generate income. As we ourselves have utilized these solutions, we are thus experienced in handling the food to product (i.e compost, charcoal) machines and will be able to relay the steps in utilizing them.

Rest easy as we ensure all the relevant stakeholders are engaged and their interest/visions for the campaign is met. Further, in order to engage the participants involved in the campaign, we will provide detailed educational talks and infographics which are bound to capture the attention of the individuals. This can be done providing additional services such as upcycling workshops which provide a fun learning alternative to the importance of proper food waste disposal and the potential value of the food waste that we tend to take for granted and simply throw away.
